HAUS7 is 1 of 8 subunits of the 390-kD human augmin complex, or HAUS complex. The augmin complex was first identified in Drosophila, and its name comes from the Latin verb 'augmentare,' meaning 'to increase.' The augmin complex is a microtubule-binding complex involved in microtubule generation within the mitotic spindle and is vital to mitotic spindle assembly.
UIP1 bound to full-length mouse Uch37 and to its C-terminal extension, but not to its N-terminal domain. In vitro binding assays confirmed direct interaction between UIP1 and Uch37. Furthermore, UIP1 was found to inhibit interaction between the S14 proteasome subunit (PSMD8) and Uch37 in a concentration-dependent manner.
