Small Cell Lung Carcinoma Cluster 4 Antigen

Cluster Of Differentiation 24 (CD24)

CD24 is a cell adhesion molecule. CD24 is a glycoprotein expressed at the surface of most B lymphocytes and differentiating neuroblasts. This gene encodes a sialoglycoprotein that is expressed on mature granulocytes and in many B cells. The encoded protein is anchored via a glycosyl phosphatidylinositol (GPI) link to the cell surface. It is expressed in many B-lineage cells and on mature granulocytes.

However, studies with monoclonal antibodies indicate that most other hematopoietic cells, including T cells, monocytes, red blood cells, and platelets, seem not to express the CD24 antigen. CD24 has been implicated in both activation and differentiation of B lymphocytes because its expression pattern changes at critical times during B-cell development.
