Embryonal Carcinoma Cells (EC)

Embryonal carcinoma is a relatively uncommon type of germ cell tumour that occurs in the ovaries and testes. P19 cells are a line of pluripotent embryonal carcinoma able to grow continuously in serum-supplemented media. Pluripotent marine embryonal carcinoma cells can differentiate in culture into many tissue types similar to those normally found in early embryosand may be useful in investigating some developmental events. Drugs can be used to generate two quite different spectra of embryonic tissue types from the same population of embryonal carcinoma cells.
