Zinc Finger Protein 160 (ZNF160)
ZNF160 is a Kruppel-related zinc finger protein which is characterized by the presence of an N-terminal repressor domain, the Kruppel-associated box (KRAB). The KRAB domain is a potent repressor of transcription; thus this protein may function in transcription regulation. Two alternative transcripts encoding the same isoform have been described.
The human genome may contain as many as 400 genes encoding zinc finger proteins; a high proportion of those that have been mapped are localized to chromosome 19. It is not known how many of these sequences are transcribed. Some are located on the short arm and others on the long arm. Significantly, none of these genes is detected in the mouse or rat genomes, suggesting a relatively recent evolutionary origin.
