Kynurenine (KYN)

Kynurenine pathway (KP) is the major tryptophan (TRP) metabolism pathway in human body, under physiological conditions metabolizes TRP into KYN and an array of downstream neuroactive metabolites, such as neuroprotective or neurotoxic agents and immune system modulators, et al, which play important roles in various tissues. KP also plays a critical role in generating cellular energy in the form of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+).
